Kenai Peninsula Fire (Funny River Area)
This fire began in late May either through a spark from a chain saw or a poorly watched campfire. Although it was very close to Sterling and Kasilof, the hundreds of fire fighters were able to turn it back. It has been almost three weeks and it is still burning but is no longer hazardous to homes.

This shows the aftermath of the fire. From the new growth, food will spring up to feed the numerous moose. It is a cleansing of the forest, burning the beetle killed spruce and the many downed trees from wind storms. After a few days of rain, Morel mushrooms will spring up all over the burned ground. Within two years, Fireweed, and horsetails will grow followed by mosses and other small plants.
